Musk Injects Massive Funds Into Final Days of Midterm Push
A new report reveals a significant surge in funding for the Texas Senate race as the election deadline approaches.

With the midterms rapidly approaching, billionaire Elon Musk has intensified his financial support for Republican candidates. A pre-election report filed Thursday evening with the Federal Election Commission details a substantial injection of personal wealth into the final stretch of the campaign.
The first key development is the sheer volume of new capital. America PAC received more than $76 million during the first two weeks of October. This influx allows the committee to enter the final phase of the election holding nearly $47 million in cash, having already spent nearly $43 million in that same short window. This level of activity underscores the scale of Musk’s personal involvement in the 2026 cycle.
Second, the Texas Senate contest has become the primary target for these funds. The race attracted $15.2 million in spending from the PAC in the last fortnight, which is double the amount deployed there during the entire summer. The majority of this, specifically $12.4 million, was used to attack Democratic candidate James Talarico, while $2.8 million promoted Republican Ken Paxton. Since those filings, daily reports indicate another $9.1 million was spent against Talarico, bringing the total cycle spending against him to nearly $28 million.
Third, the strategy has shifted toward digital engagement. The PAC allocated $11.4 million to online advertisements during the two-week period, a figure that nearly matches its combined spending on mail and text messages. This pivot highlights a move toward targeted digital outreach in the final days before voters head to the polls.
In the broader context, this spending brings Musk’s total contributions to Republican groups this cycle to over $445 million, cementing his status as the largest known individual donor. Since July, more than $165 million has flowed specifically to America PAC. The billionaire has also been vocal on social media, posting on X that there is "something deeply wrong with Talarico" and labeling the Democrat "a creep." Talarico responded to these comments and an earlier false claim about mental health treatment by stating that it is wrong for a trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.
Looking ahead, the Texas race remains statistically undecided. An Emerson College poll conducted October 17 to 19 among 1,000 likely voters shows Talarico at 48 percent and Paxton at 46 percent, within the three-point margin of error. The outcome carries significant weight for Musk beyond state lines. If Democrats secure the House, committee leaders have indicated they will investigate his role in the Department of Government Efficiency, his federal contracts, and potential conflicts of interest. Additionally, a group of Silicon Valley Democrats recently called for scrutiny of federal funding for SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine, signaling that the next Congress may closely examine business ties to the billionaire.
